the sugar cane did produce carbon dioxide into the atmostphere, however this would not of effected global warming because there is only a very little carbon dioxide released. this is not a long term store of carbon dioxide like you do with fossil fuels.
also, less carbon dioxide is released as he burns the dry part of the plant which does not contain the sugar :)
