bangkok floods - summary

A lot of people in Bangkok are unsure about whats happening in Bangkok with the floods. Because of the media and the internet, there's a lot of information circulating what is going to happen, this is causing some people to panic.
There are a few reasons as to why there are now floods in Thailand. Thailand is geographically sloped so naturally the water from the north comes flowing straight to the south and settles in the flood basin near Bangkok. In the past, the water would have been absorbed by the rainforests but people have destroyed all these forests and put up dams instead. these are quite efficient because you can control the amount of water behind the dam by releasing and holding it back. However, if they are not managed correctly then it could result in the dam collapsing. One of the factors causing these floods is there was too much water behind the dam and the risk of collapse so they were forced to release more water than usual. The amount of rainfall has been heavier this year, with monsoon season starting earlier and finishing later and we had our wettest September ever. This are all contributing factors to the floods.

exam question: sugar cane

the sugar cane did produce carbon dioxide into the atmostphere, however this would not of effected global warming because there is only a very little carbon dioxide released. this is not a long term store of carbon dioxide like you do with fossil fuels.

ecosystem: a communtiy of interdependant organisms and the physical environment they inhabit
population: a group of organisms of the same species living in the same area at the same time, and which are capable of interbreeding
community: a group of the same species living and interacting with each other in a common habitat
niche: where organisms live and work i.e bees

the exercise we did on this was to create our own ecosystem with populations, communities, niches..ect

I like the environment

Hi, I'm Hannah and I did environmental management because I am interested about the world we live in. I especially like talking about the biosphere and atmostphere. I think its important to care and cherish this world which is why I take this subject- to one day give back to the world .
